Adult Students

We have about 325 students representing different age groups. The youngest students are just completing their lower secondary education and the oldest have already reached retirement. Most of our students are adults who are working and studying at the same time. The latest cultural additions to our student body are foreign students learning Finnish as a foreign language. Students come to KHSA from the near distance. Thus the longest school journey that a student can have is about 50 kilometres.

We have an active Student Union, which aims to bring the students together and also takes part in organising different social and cultural events throughout the year for everyone's enjoyment.

Our 2nd year students on studying at KHSA:

"It's better to study here in the evening than be a couch potato at home."

"You drag yourself from your comfortable sofa to hard wooden chairs, sometimes quite tired form a day's work. Then after three lessons you return home always refreshed and full of vigour. I want to prove myself I can do it."

"If you have problems with waking up in the morning, this school is made for you."

"Studying here is more easy-going than in the ordinary daytime high school. So far I've liked this."

"The independency of the studies really pleases me. Also, the evening is more suitable time for me to study."

"I'm here in order to complete my high school studies in 4 years. I give bonus points to this whole evening system, believe me ...I'm much more awake here in the evenings than in those *** early morning hours."

"I'm here to get my grades better. I think it's nice to study here and there's a better atmosphere than in daytime high school."

"I want to learn more about life. I think this is the way to do it."

"I'm studying at two schools at the same time and this school is very flexible. That's why I like it. It gives me a lot of freedom but also demands a lot. Sometimes it's hard but it's worth it."

"It is so much fun to study here. Everyone is so friendly and the atmosphere is so relaxed."

"I like to study all my life. It's the best gymnastics for the brain. And 'the white hat' has always been my dream."

"It is really wonderful to know how to speak good English. I came to adult high school to study languages to help my contacts all over the world."

"Studying is an interesting hobby. You can be a student even if you are working because you can study in the evenings. And your age is not an obstacle."

"I like studying in this school because the teaching gives me enough challenges and the teachers are strict enough."
